Cebu Island: August Weather, Temperature, and Climate

A sunny beach on Cebu Island, with palm trees and a vast blue sky

In August, Cebu is about as hot as the height of summer in Japan, and the humidity is also quite high.

Although we're in the middle of the rainy season, it's typically less rainy than July and September, which come before and after it.

Let's head to the beach when the sun comes out!

Average and High Temperatures in August

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), based on the normal values (1991–2020) for Mactan Airport, the average temperature in August is28.5°CIt is.

With an average daytime high of 31.9°C and an average morning and evening low of 25.2°C, hot weather continues throughout the day.

The average humidity is as high as 82%, which can make it feel even hotter.

Be sure to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks during the day while sightseeing!

Rainfall during the rainy season consists mainly of downpours.

Based on the same normal values, the precipitation in August is157.9 mm...There are about 13 rainy days.

It receives less rainfall than July (210.6 mm) or September (190.4 mm), so you could say it’s a month with relatively light rainfall during the rainy season.

Rain mainly comes in the form of brief, heavy downpours, and it rarely rains all day long.

When it rains, the Cebu way is to take a break at a café or shopping mall and wait for the sun to come out.

How much will the August typhoon affect Cebu Island?

An image of a tropical sea with high waves as a typhoon approaches

Many typhoons form around the Philippines from June through September, with August being the peak season.

However, since most typhoons tend to pass near Luzon in the northern Philippines, there are only a limited number of days when Cebu is directly affected.

Even so, when a typhoon passes nearby, the sea can get rough, and boat tours may be canceled.

Starting a few days before the trip, I checked PAGASA and Japanese weather reports to seeTyphoon PathIt's a good idea to check that just to be safe.

Weather in Late August and Travel Tips

The latter half of August is a time when rainfall gradually increases in anticipation of September.

For tours that head out to sea, we recommend choosing a morning departure, when the weather tends to be more stable.

When planning your trip, be prepared for cancellations due to weather conditionsOne reserve dayIf you add it, you won't have to give up on the activity.

Also, there’s a Philippine holiday at the end of August, so tourist spots tend to get crowded. Be sure to make your reservations early!
